Thymopen® (Thymopentin) A synthetic pentapeptide which is the active site of the naturally occurring hormone thymopoietin with immunomodulating properties. Thymopen® (Thymopentin) enhances the production of thymic T cells and may help to restore immunocompetence in immunosuppressed subjects. This agent also augments the effects of ionizing radiation by arresting cancer cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle.Synthetic pentapeptide corresponding to the amino acids 32-36 of thymopoietin and exhibiting the full biological activity of the natural hormone. It is an immunomodulator which has been studied for possible use in the treatment of AIDS, atopic dermatitis, rheumatoid arthritis and other primary immunodeficiencies.

Description: Thymopen® (Thymopentin) is white lyophilized loose mass powder for IM injection.
Each vial contains 1 mg Thymopen® (Thymopentin) as lyophilized powder to dissolve with 1 ml of sterile water for injection before use intramuscularly Dosage: To be used 1 ml injection, once or twice daily for 15 to 30 days as a course of treatment or as advised by the doctor.

Indications:
(1) Autoimmune diseases (such as AIDs, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus).
(2) Variety of primary or secondary T cell deficiency disease (such as children with congenital immunodeficiency disease)
(3)Patients with chronic hepatitis B over 18 years of age.
(4) Kinds of the low cellular immune function diseases
(5) For the treatment of atopic dermatitis
(6) Adjuvant therapy for tumors

Pharmacology and toxicology:
Thymopen® (Thymopentin) is a two-way immune regulator.
Thymopen® (Thymopentin) can also induce and promote differentiation, maturation and activation of the T lymphocyte and its subset, adjust the proportion of the T lymphocyte, enhances CD4+ / CD8+. Adjust and enhance immune function of the human cell, promote maturation of T lymphocyte in the peripheral blood activated by mitogen, increases secretion of the T cell in kinds of antigen or lymphakine, (such as interferon, interleukin-2), increase the receptor level of lymphakine on the T cell. Thymopen® (Thymopentin) can also enhance the lymphocyte reaction by activating the T accessory cell. In addition, Thymopen® (Thymopentin) can affect the chemotaxis of the precursor cell, that precursor cell become more toxic after exposure to the interferon. Therefore, Thymopen® (Thymopentin) can adjust and enhance the immune function of the human cell.

Adverse reactions:
(1) Well-tolerated, nausea, fever, dizziness, chest distress, and minor adverse reactions in the individual case. A small number of patients have somnolence occasionally.
(2) The patients with chronic hepatitis B may increase the level of ALT transiently, if no omen for the hepatic failure, Thymopen® (Thymopentin) can be used continually.

Contraindication:
The patients hypersensitive to this drug, and patients on immune suppressive drugs in organ transplantation during initial stages.

Precautions:
(1) This drug enhances the patient's immune function, so the patients on immunosuppressive therapy (such as organ transplant recipients) should use this drug carefully unless the benefits of the treatment is greater than the risk significantly.

Drug interactions:
(1) Thymopen® (Thymopentin) can be combined safely with many common drugs, including interferon, anti- inflammatory, antibiotic, hormones, analgesics, hypotensive drugs, drugs used in the treatment for cardiovascular disease, drugs for central nervous system and contraceptives.
(2) Thymopen® (Thymopentin) can be combined with interferon, and have the synergy for improving the immune function.
